Two identical coolers can feel completely different depending on where they sit. Give it a source of fresh air and a clear path to the people it is meant to reach.
Three habits fix this for almost every UAE space:
- Sit it near an open window, door, or ventilation point. The unit pulls in outdoor air, which stays drier and cooler after evaporation than recycled indoor air.
- Aim the airflow at people, not empty space. Point the louvres toward the seating, workbench, or reception area rather than at the ceiling.
- Keep it away from walls. Leave at least 40 to 60 cm of clearance behind and around the unit so the intake grille can breathe.
Choosing the right unit for the space
The single biggest mistake is buying, or renting, a cooler that is too small for the area. A weak fan cannot push cool air across a warehouse aisle no matter how cold the pads are. For example, a 20 by 15 foot patio with a 10 foot ceiling has a volume of 3,000 cubic feet, so you would look for a cooler rated at around 1,500 CFM or more.
Can I run a portable air cooler in a closed room?
You can, but it will lose effectiveness within an hour or two. As the cooler runs, it adds moisture to the air. Without an opening for that damp air to escape and fresh air to replace it, the humidity climbs and the temperature stops dropping.
